BECOME DATA DRIVEN

Boost your lab's value

Become the best at solving your no. 1 problem

l

From data to value

How do you want to grow?

Focus

Make decisions based on data.

Go for excellent execution. Always know how you are doing. Shorten your experiment cycles. Improve decision making.

This helps your team to focus on hard problems, unlock creativity and team play.

Innovate

Be different and be first.

With machine learning you can do so much more with data. Develop data intense sensors. Infer based on thousands of weak signals. Or skip the next 5 experiments.

Design products that were not possible before. Develop new business models and partnerships around data. Sell based on detailed product and market data.

Building blocks

Technical components of a data driven lab

Introduce metrics

Use metrics to track experiments, hit rate, information gain.

Optimize sensors

Get more data out of your sensors and equipment.

Optimize experiments

Use machine learning to shorten the experiment cycle.

Train models

Create models that push the boundaries of your domain.

How it works

Become data driven

Change DNA of your lab.

1
Identify opportunities

Challenges? Your team knows best. Let's get it out! A workshop is a great format.

Opportunities ? We show you how competitors and other industries thrive on data.

Tip: Envisioning has a profound impact on individual performance. Involve your team early on.

2
Collect data

Data can help realize your vision.

Products, sensors, or experiments may be adapted to get the data you need. Most clients collect significantly more data within one or two months.

Tip: involve your team. What data can be collected? How large is the effort and what will we gain?

3
Extract insights

Insights drive your decisions; daily and in the moments that matter most.

Develop models, visualizations, metrics so that you can share and learn.

Tip: Keep it simple. Keep your business people, scientists and engineers in control.

About

Sjoerd de Haan, Ph.D.

Machine Learning Scientist

How can we become beter at solving our no. 1 problem?
That is the question I love to ask repeatedly.
I don't have the answer, but together we can get there.

What I do is to facilitate.
That can be help with making plans, organizing workshops, building models, or do research.
I create boundary conditions that empower the team to do their best work.

For some teams I design complete new deep learning architectures;
If that is the one thing they need to get ahead.
Next, I will teach members how to train the model on new data;
enabling them to own the process.

For other teams I build quick prototypes with existing models.
Often the goal is to inspire, to envision and to improve communication.
This work is good if it makes people in different departments talk and collaborate.

I also train team members to develop their roles further.
Sometimes this is a simple as referring them to an online course.

Often I spend time with engineers and scientist to improve experiments, or sensors.
Or I spend time with the lead scientist or engineer to plan the rollout of a new project.

For 15 years I have been combining science, mathematics, programming, and teamwork.
I worked on hard science and engineering problems;
Delving into connections between science, information theory, machine learning, and deep learning.
Under some conditions, teams solve the most challenging problems faster, with more creativity and with more fun.
That is the state that I like to create most.

I have a wide interest for biology, physics, chemistry, engineering, business and teamwork.
I am happy to learn from you and share.
